The Complete Practical Guide for the Jazz Guitar Soloist
Ron Eschete is not only one of Hollywood’s great studio guitarists, but is also a fine exponent of the jazz guitar. This book gives you a complete vocabulary of lines with clear explainations of the basic skills involved in playing them. Along with learning each line, you will understand the concept of how it was created. Once you are aware of this concept, you will be able to apply it to the playing of melodic lines. It is the author’s intention to have you not only learn to play the lines and transpose them to other keys, but also to take the concepts involved and turn them into your own ideas. The book deals with five keys, C, F, Bb, Eb and G. These five keys are very common to most of the standard jazz and pop tunes and they will illustrate the basic fingering patterns. The first three sections, major, minor and dominant, are organised seperately, but relate to each other. The next three sections, motifs, altered chords and octaves, will give you more specific tools to use in your solo playing. The diminished and augmented sections deal with how the lines are used over these two types of chords. The final section, progressions, deals with soloing over common chord progressions. All the neccesary scale are given in each section.
